Belynda Sharples began her career in interior design, working in London before setting up her own design practice in Norfolk. Her experience and love of textiles within Interior Design projects led her to an MA in Textile Culture at Norwich School of Art.
Belynda’s paintings work in parallel to her textile practice. Motifs in the form of flowers, furniture and textiles display an overriding theme of domesticity and the everyday. Multiple layers of paint create an abstract mélange that is recognisable in form but blurred in colour and texture. Her paintings are not merely decorative and joyful on the surface but on closer inspection show an instinctive ability to use colour and brush marking to convey the world around her that she has spent a lifetime observing.
